So proud of hubby Lyndon Fairbairn for donating the legend Steph Gilmore's signed World Championship winning surfboard for our local South Coast Boardriders Top Female Surfer of the Year award. Such a special and unique trophy that can tangibly inspire the next generation of women surfers. Well done Pipiata, and also well done to Alexis Owen for winning the Men's award after an amazing showing to finish 4th at the World Junior Surfing Champs this month! The future is looking bright for these dedicated (read: cold water!) surfers 😄👊

THIS! And me getting real about my frustrations in the Nutrition space:I so wish that more New Zealanders could access us to work with them. It bothers me that what little funding is available to see a dietitian is to TREAT a disease or condition once you already have it. Given how many of Aoteaora New Zealand's major chronic disease issue are caused by diet, it is really disappointing to see little financial support for New Zealanders to access us to prevent those diseases or conditions that run in their family in the first place. I would love to see change in this space.Dietitians like me are understanding, with empathetic ears and no judgement. We know there are many ways to eat a healthy diet, we have seen it all. We won't be forcing the 'my way is the best/only way' onto you. People aren't clones of each other and why would we want to be? How boring would that be!Dietitians won't be selling you supplements either, we are prohibited from doing so. It is a conflict of interest in that a financial gain from selling supplement products can influence nutrition advice provided to you. Ask anyone from any profession who recommends to you nutrition supplements that they sell, what commissions or profit they make off those sales. Instead, Dietitians are simply here for YOU. Check the qualifications of the person you are listening to. In Aotearoa and Australia, the term Dietitian is legally regulated. The Term Nutritionist is not. An appropriate Nutritionist is someone who is a Registered Nutritionist with the NZ or Australian Nutrition Society and has done an Undergraduate degree (at least) that MAJORS in Human Nutrition. Any of you could call yourselves a Nutritionist without the right (or any!) training or experience. A few nutrition papers and a weekend course here and there just doesn't cut it to be giving nutrition advice to other people. It's fine to learn about your own nutritional needs, but don't start advising others without the right qualifications and experience. Thanks for reading!xxChoose us. Use us. Your health is worth it.

I’m a bit late with this post as I've had a terrific couple of months with NZ Cricket and the White Ferns, so it's about time that I am happy to share that I have started a new position as High Performance Women's Dietitian at NEW ZEALAND CRICKET! Loving the role :-)
